Want to Know What I’m Reading Now?
Authors Who Have Inspired Me:
In Fantasy:
- Anne Bishop, http://annebishop.com/
The Black Jewels Trilogy is simply stunning!
It would be difficult to find a fantasy reader ill-acquainted with Anne Rice, but while most everyone speaks of her vampire stories, Rice’s The Lives of the Mayfair Witches series creates a rich, beautiful world around a complex and fascinating witch family.
In Contemporary/Mainstream:
- Margaret Atwood, http://www.margaretatwood.ca/
Absolutely breathtaking. The Robber Bride has been on my favorite booklist for over fifteen years.
- Carol Goodman, http://carolgoodman.com
I came across Carol Goodman randomly, but found her novels rich with detail and incredible narrative. The Lake of Dead Languages felt like reading a vivid dream.
In General:
The first author to ever inspire me to truly write: Christopher Pike, the elusive young adult horror novelist. Scavenger Hunt, Chain Letter, Remember Me, and many others were books I nearly stood in line for upon their release, and until my mid-teens I read every book Pike ever wrote. I still occasionally revisit them for that inspirational memory! http://authors.simonandschuster.com/Christopher-Pike/1080960
